Early career professionals conference brings together over 150 delegates
The Museums Association's (MA) Moving On Up conference has kicked off to a full house, with 150 junior museums professionals arriving at the Museum of Science and Industry (Mosi) in Manchester this morning.

Among the delegates was Hope Roberts, 23, collections intern at the University of Dundee who had travelled from Scotland today. She said: "I came here to get advice on how to develop my career as I am in my first job. This is such a good networking opportunity."

Laura Ferguson, education officer at Gallery Oldham said: "I'm at the event because I've been working in a paid museum sector job for four years but I have also spent three years volunteering.

“With the recession it's difficult to find jobs and I want to learn about different avenues to go down. I'm hoping to hear different viewpoints and get some inspiration."

Arran Rees, 25, collections curator at Cardiff Story Museum said: "I'm hoping to meet a lot of new people who think the same way I do about museums. It's also a great chance to meet people outside Wales that I can talk to about the sector."

Moving On Up is aimed at museum professionals in the first five years of their career. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn key skills for professional development, debate what makes a radical workforce and network with senior figures in the museum sector.
