Award celebrates outstanding examples of volunteer leadership
Nominations are open for this year’s Heritage Volunteer Manager of the Year award.

The distinction aims to celebrate the achievements of people who have made a difference and recognise innovative and outstanding examples of volunteer leadership and management in the heritage sector.

It’s open to those in volunteer management roles, either paid or unpaid, such as volunteer coordinators and supervisors.

The award is run by the Heritage Volunteering Group (HVG), which helps organisations and volunteer managers make the most of volunteering through collaboration and sharing best practice.

HVG chairman Matthew Hick said: “The Heritage Volunteering Group's Volunteer Manager of the Year Award is our chance to recognise the important role volunteer managers play in the sector and to celebrate their outstanding achievements."

The Museums Association’s professional development officer, Tamsin Russell, who is a member of the HGV steering group, said: “People volunteer for many different reasons and their experience is affected by the projects developed and the engagement in place. Being a competent volunteer manager enables this to happen and we want to ensure that good role models and good practice are celebrated and shared.”

Last year’s award was won by Nicola Seike, volunteer coordinator for Leicestershire County Council Heritage Service. She said: “The recognition made me feel really proud of what we have achieved across Leicestershire Heritage community. It also highlighted the vibrancy and passion younger volunteers and volunteers with learning disabilities can bring.

“I hope my work inspires people to consider making their volunteering opportunities more diverse and accessible as heritage belongs to everyone, and everyone has something to contribute. This award also raised the profile of heritage volunteering in my organisation which is a huge positive.”

The deadline for nominations is 12 March.
